Young Hollywood Style Maven Series: First Up, Marion Cotillard

What a face...stunning, natural, old Hollywood almost in it's fresh quality. Is Marion on her way to becoming an "underrated beauty" in today's Hollywood? Me thinks so.

The face of Dior...classy, sleek, sophisticated.

In Dior at the premiere for Public Enemies in Paris. Does the dress not just scream Audrey In Sabrina? Check out the bow detail.

LBD vs. LWD

Look at that guys; three posts in three days! Don't take this for granted. I don't start school for another six days, and after that, you'll be begging me to update. Which reminds me, there's another place that could use updating and fast, with some love in the afternoon. I'll stop over there later on tonight.

Ok...so usually, when you hear the term LBD, you might think of Audrey. She is one of the many women who made the little black dress so famous. But what about the little white dress? To black or to white, that is the question. I prefer both, to be honest, but it seems the LWD doesn't get enough attention. LWD can stand for little, or long white dress. Because me being me, I take LBD to stand for either little or long black dress. Here are a couple...

Audrey in BAT's. Really, my favorite thing about this ensemble is the hat. I'm not the biggest fan of this LBD; maybe the fringe put me off a little? Forgive me Givenchy, wherever you may be.

Ah, delicious; our long black dress. Such simplicity, yet incredibly impeccable. And what I wouldn't give for the LBGs (long black gloves). You wouldn't think Miss Holly Golighly is an...um, escort in this impossibly sophisticated gown.

A long white dress...with another gorgeous accessory, dapper Cary Grant. Designed by Edith Head for Grace Kelly in 1955's To Catch a Thief, this flawless creation is one of my most absolute favorites. I like it even better than Holly's LBD. La Kelly looks like a goddess, but that's not exactly news is it?

Another long white dress, which accentuates that icy veneer that molded the ice queen Kelly image. She seems to be posing so that enough attention is paid to the exquisite design of the gown, but it doesn't detract from her.

And purely for fun...darling Emma in a little white dress.

You might be thinking: not as stunning as the previous dresses, but it does hold a trademark that was quite familiar with Audrey, Grace and all true style mavens: simplicity. Still, it's cute and refreshing, and young.

What are your favorite LBDs or LWDs? Classic, modern, what have you. Inquiring minds want to know. ;-)

RED

In keeping with the red theme, and poster girl Emma Watson, looking lovely at the premiere for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I've decided to post this picture of Hermione's dress for Bill and Fleur's wedding in the upcoming Deathly Hallows film. It isn't lavender as J.K. describes in the book, but I actually like it a lot. The color pops, and it's very original. I wasn't the biggest fan of the fur, but it does seem to work.

If anyone is reading this, let me know what you think.

Welcome!

I know, like I don't already have enough to do! But Dreaming in Black and White was getting a little crowded with all the Audrey, classic films, Audrey, politics, Audrey, randomness, and more Audrey...and a LOT more randomness. (A lot more than I had bargained for).

So here, while I cringe at the word superficial, is just another place to talk about the less stressful and infinitely fun topic of style. That's all it is here; style mavens and their clothes. If you care to share in my discussions on classic film, randomness, politics, rare thoughtful insights, or just plain world news, my first blog affair is the place to go. But, if you'd rather read my love fests on the style arbiters whom I adore, then you've found your place. I just really thought fashion had it's own place rather than being lumped in there with everything else. (I know, the same should be said for my political ramblings, but alas, they're random, and therefore, belong where they are).

Don't worry; a lot of familiar faces will be showing up here. The classics and the moderns. I'll try to update, but forgive me if (and when) I don't.
